“Declaring WarZ on DayZ?” or “Zombies Are the New Nazis!”

There is a great interview up on PC Gamer with regarding the upcoming “zombie MMO”, WarZ, where developer XYZ’s Executive Producer Sergey Titov was interview by Evan Lahti. WarZ was announced very recently, and has been the object of some criticism because of the many similarities it shares with the rabidly popular DayZ, Dean “Rocket” Hall’s Arma II mod.

Both feature a zombie apocalypse, with open world gameplay, lacking a traditional quest/mission structure, with no real “victory” scenario, beyond surviving the apocalypse and trying to maintain a good stock of critical supplies to stay alive.

WarZ has a few features that really grabbed my attention though. First, it is an in-house engine, Eclipse, which they have tweaked and tempered over the last few years. Screenshots should always be taken with a grain of salt, but I have to say, the game looks pretty sweet. Second, while DayZ starts to stutter and lag with a soft cap of 40 players per server, WarZ will support 250. Then we have wildcards like Eve Online style bounties, and vaccinations that can be crafted by hunting stem cell zombies, which, inconveniently, only show up at night. Your weapons can be modified using a variety of appendages, such a silencers for quiet kills, or grips for better recoil.

All in all, it looks very interesting, and unless some very conflicting or negative information comes out, I will be purchasing this little title. The article is up on PC Gamer, and worth a read for zombie apocalypse enthusiasts (is there such a thing?) everywhere!

Yes, there is such a thing, and you can count me among them. Since Romero brought us the Day of the Dead….. and Dawn…….. and the countless others, both good and bad!

meh..from what I can find out about Warz its a quick repackage of War Inc., that engine is imo crap and still full of bugs. Its sounds like they saw how popular dayz was and decided too try to cash in quick. I`m not buying that it was “in dev before dayz came out” there is NO history of ANY dev prior to dayz so?
Its a scam buyer beware…dayz is solid for an alpha and great fun as it is its playable….only the hackers ruin it and that can be fixed once its standalone. The fact that people are willing to pay for hacks for a free game, well a mod actually, says a lot about the game too. Most of the warz fanboys haven`t even played Dayz, the perma death thing scares the kiddies away. Those with a 15 minute attention span and no patience die fast in Dayz. Its not a blaze away at the zombies arcade style shooter, that will be what Warz is I bet…

I played Dayz (3hours) I played WarZ (10mins), but I still have an opinion on both.

The Arma/Dayz environment (tree and forest is much better). WarZ has candy graphics :(.

WarZ the bases look for future fun. Sorry, places to defend an inevitable swarm.

The WarZ zombie looked better and the sounds chilling. But my torch did not cave it’s skull in.

But for now the walk if the forest and axe in hand is for me. ….I heard a gun shot for the first time today….even more tense than the Zs.

    DayZ
