Quote of the Day: “Pete Smith Gets Molested” or “Horrendous Hand Holding”

“So as I mentioned in my last post, I started a new character yesterday. He’s now level 15 or 16 and holy smokes, World of Warcraft is holding my hand to the point where I’m feeling molested.”

Pete, WoW is starting out ever easy, Dragonchasers

i guess there is no happy middle; only handholding to the point of molestation, and the opposite being no direction at all and getting frustrated to rage quit

With the former, however, it’s at least possible to stray from the path.

You can still stray from the path very easily in WoW. You just pick a direction and go. The presence of a golden path lit with neon lights does not preclude going offroading if you can work up the will to make your own choices.

I think Pete’s argument is that the early experience, while fully catering to the MMO noob, holds you in its loving embrace to the point of suffocation. Straying from the golden, neon-lit path is certainly an option later in the game, but there isn’t much deviation from it otherwise, pre-meditated or otherwise, during the early levels.
